Heathrow Airport by Train
The Heathrow Express is the fastest way to travel into Central London. Trains leave Heathrow Airport from approximately 5am until 11.45pm. Standard adult fares are £16.50 for a single ticket purchased online (£18 if bought from the ticket machine at Heathrow Airport and £23 if purchased onboard).
Operating 150 services every day, Heathrow Express reaches Heathrow Central (Terminals 1 and 3) from Paddington in 15 minutes, with Terminal 5 a further four minutes away. A free transfer service to Terminal 4 departs Heathrow Central every 15 minutes and takes four minutes.
Heathrow Connect services run from London Paddington, calling at Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall, Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Central (Terminals 1 and 3). For Terminals 4 and 5, there is a free Heathrow Express transfer service from Heathrow Central. Heathrow Connect journey time is 25 minutes from Paddington to Heathrow Central and adult tickets cost £8.50 single or £16.50 return.
Heathrow Airport by Tube
The Piccadilly line connects Heathrow Airport to Central London and the rest of the Tube system. The Tube is cheaper than the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect but it takes a lot longer and is less comfortable. Tube services leave Heathrow every few minutes from approximately 5am (5.50am Sundays) to 11.45pm (10.50pm Sundays).
Journey time to Piccadilly Circus is about 50 minutes. There are three Tube stations at Heathrow Airport, serving Terminals 1-3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. A single paper ticket from Heathrow (Zone 6) into Central London (Zone 1) costs £5.00 (£4.50 on Oyster). If you are going to be using London's public transport system, it is worth buying an Oyster card.
London Gatwick
Located 28 miles south of London. www.gatwickairport.com
Gatwick Airport by Rail
The Gatwick Express is the fastest way into Central London. There are trains every 15 minutes between Gatwick Airport's South Terminal and London Victoria Station every day from 4.35am to 1.35am. Standard fares are £18.90 single and £33.20 return. Journey time is 30 minutes and the service is non-stop to Victoria.
You can also get the First Capital Connect train to London Bridge, Blackfriars and St Pancras stations. Trains leave approximately every 30 minutes. A standard adult single is £9.90 to St Pancras and the journey takes 40 minutes.
Southern Railway has two trains per hour during the day between Gatwick and London Bridge. The journey time is 52 minutes. A standard single ticket costs £8.50.
London City Airport
Situated approximately 6 miles east of Central London and just 3 miles from Canary Wharf. www.londoncityairport.com
London City Airport by Docklands Light Railway
Catch the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to London City Airport. Services run every eight to 15 minutes. Fares on the DLR are the same as those on the Tube.
London City Airport by Tube
London City Airport is well-connected to the Tube network. Take the Jubilee Line to Canning Town or Canary Wharf, or take the Central Line to Bank, and change to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).
London Luton Airport
Located 35 miles north-west of Central London. www.london-luton.co.uk
Luton Airport by Train
A regular shuttle bus links the airport to Luton Airport Parkway train station in around eight minutes. From there, frequent rail services travel to Central London and take as little as 21 minutes with East Midlands Trains and 25 minutes with First Capital Connect. First Capital Connect services connect to stations including St Pancras International, Farringdon, London Bridge and Blackfriars in Central London. Trains run throughout the day and night and a standard single costs £12.50.
Traveling by Taxi
There are usually taxis queuing for customers at London's airports. Only use a black cab or reputable mini-cab and never use unauthorised drivers. You can ask the driver for an estimate of how much your journey will cost beforehand.
