After the rush of Christmas, the highlight of our calendar is undoubtedly the London January sales. Whether it’s gourmet grape jelly or plush leather oxfords you’re after, cacao nib truffles or Coco Chanel, there are so many fabulous reductions you’ll be utterly spoilt for choice.

At The Rubens at the Palace, our elegant 4* hotel that overlooks Buckingham Palace, we’re also taking advantage of the generous winter sale season. Guests who book with us now are entitled to a number of catch-them-while-you-can offers. Get your day off to a good start with a complimentary full English breakfast in our traditional Old Masters Restaurant, replete with button-backed chairs, white table linen, and a comprehensive spread. Visitors can also indulge with one of our discounted room packages, with weekend rates from £156 per night, three nights for the price of two when booking a suite (or one night free when you stay four nights or more in any room type), and seven nights for price of five in one of our luxurious one- or two-bedroom apartments.

Once you’ve taken advantage of our sales, get ready for some serious shopping out on the town. Below, we’ve selected five of our favourite London January sales.

Best for out-of-town visitors:

The self-proclaimed mother of all sales – tagline: there is only one sale – the iconic Harrods Winter Sale is arguably the best and most competitive in the city. In a tradition that commences on Boxing Day and stretches into the New Year, prepare to vie with thousands of experienced sale shoppers to get your hands on luxury designer goods at generous discounts.
From 26th December 2013

Best for boutique bargains:

One unmissable London shopping destination is Burlington Arcade, located just off Piccadilly and close to Fortnum & Mason. This elegant Victorian gallery has long been a bastion of upmarket retail among the well-heeled Mayfair set, offering quality gift services and high-end, exclusive products ranging from antique jewellery to hats. Sales begin on Boxing Day across many of the boutiques, including luxury fragrance store Penhaligon’s, while some advertise a later official start date of 3rd January.
From 26th December 2013

Best for iconic prints:

Now’s your chance to sweep up that beautiful Liberty print scarf you’ve always desired, as the Liberty of London sale is due to commence early on 26th December. Enter into the landmark location on Great Marlborough and Regent Street, and explore the many tiers and hidden corners of this Tudor revival building to uncover a wealth of discounted treasures within.
From 26th December 2013

Best for gourmet goodies:

You might think you’d have had enough of gourmet foodstuffs by the end of the festive season. But January is long – why not indulge? The Fortnum & Mason sale commences the day after Boxing Day, giving you just one day’s respite from the gluttony of Christmas, but plenty of time to stock up before the New Year. Spoil yourself with caviar and rum marmalade, or else snap up some of Lucifer’s biscuits, an exquisite ginger and chilli temptation that tastes every bit as sinful as it sounds.
From 27th December 2013

Best for affordable luxury:

Once you’ve finished at Harrods and are satisfied with your plunder, hurry along Sloane Street to nearby Sloane Square and take a look at the elegant window displays. The pièce de résistance here is Peter Jones, an unbranded John Lewis department store that occupies an entire block on the far side of the square. Don’t leave before you’ve spent a good couple of hours perusing the infinite desirables therein, with particular attention paid in their home department, which is superb.
