Bonfire Night

One of Britain’s long-standing traditions is the celebration of Bonfire Night, marking the night of the failed Gunpowder Plot by Guy Fawkes in 1605. At a series of celebrations across London, people warm themselves by a roaring bonfire while looking up at the fireworks exploding overhead.

Hidden London: Down Street

Things to do in London this November

Hosted by the London Transport Museum, this Hidden London tour takes visitors underground to the tunnels where railways were once coordinated, and where Prime Minister Winston Churchill took refuge during the Blitz. A ticket to the event includes entry to the museum.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 

Things to do in London this November

Now in its tenth year, Winter Wonderland is one of the season’s most anticipated events. An outdoor ice rink beneath a canopy of twinkling lights, 60-metre-high observation wheel, and the Arctic-themed Magical Ice Kingdom, appeal to visitors of all ages, with dazzling shows such as Zippos Christmas Circus to top it all off.

Revered worldwide for its extensive collections that give an insight into human history, arts and culture, the British Museum is worth visiting at any time, but the museum’s temporary exhibitions add even greater interest. South Africa: The Art of a Nation looks at the way in which the country’s art reflects its society, with ancient artefacts exhibited alongside contemporary artworks. Each year, the beginning of winter marks the launch of the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival, lighting up this Thames-side location. The riverside outdoor Christmas market is one of the event’s highlights, with vendors selling artisanal goods, seasonal fare, and steaming mulled wine. This can be followed by catching one of the event’s shows, such as rock ‘n’ roll musical, Million Dollar Quartet.

Hogwarts in the Snow

Things to do in London this November

The chance to visit the Harry Potter movies sets is reason enough to experience the Warner Bros’ Studio Tour, but each year as Christmas approaches the opportunity becomes even more enticing with the launch of Hogwarts in the Snow. With sets decorated as they were for the movies’ festive scenes, visitors are transported to these nostalgic film moments.
