Event: The Ministry of Food
Date: Feb 12th until December 31st
The Imperial War Museum is starting 2010 by looking 70 years into the past with an exhibition examining how the British public adapted to a world of food shortages during the days of the Second World War.
Called the Ministry of Food, the showcase will examine how food rationing changed British life and how growing one's own food, eating seasonal fruit and vegetables and recycling were just as important in the 1940s as they are today.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a wartime greenhouse, a 1940s grocery shop, economy recipe books and a typical kitchen from the time.
They will also learn more about campaigns such as Digging for Victory and Lending a Hand on the Land helped the country through the war and shape the public's thinking on food consumption and waste.
Fast forward 70 years and the UK's culinary culture has developed considerably and nowhere is this more evident than at the luxury London hotel the 41, where guests can sit down and enjoy a wonderful three-course table d'hote dinner for two courtesy of the Get More From Your Stay package.
Those who prefer can opt for a bottle of Laurent Perrier to sip in their room, Champagne afternoon tea, a romantic turndown or a late checkout until 18:00 GMT instead.
