Event: Van Dyck and Britain
Date: February 18th until May 17th
Art fans from near and far will be descending on the capital from next February for an exhibition of some of the most acclaimed and valuable pieces of work from one of 17th century Britain's most influential painters.
Born and raised in Antwerp, Anthony van Dyck left his unmistakable prints all over the world of portraiture, with his skill and vision so impressive it won the heart and eye of King Charles I.
So thrilled was he with the artist's creations, the royal employed him as the principal painter at his elegant court, where his impact was similar to that of Hans Holbein at the court of Henry VIII.
The majority of his most impressive pieces were completed in the run up to the British Civil War and during this period he painted portraits of some of the era's leading characters and influential figures.
His pictures of the king himself have shaped modern views of the Stuart monarchy and his vision has shaped those of other artists since his death at the tender age of 42.
The Van Dyck and Britain exhibition will provide visitors with examples of his finest pieces depicting the British elite, as well as how he affected the work of his contemporaries, including Sir Joshua Reynolds and John Singer Sargent.
Art fans will love this exploration into one of the most influential painters of any era.
After examining van Dyck's legacy visitors can enjoy more magnificence and meticulous attention to detail by booking a suite at the luxury London hotel the 41.
Couples spending a weekend away together can opt for the Valentine's package where they can be in each other's company in a splendid room and sip champagne after enjoying a candlelit dinner for two.
