The Pitmen Painters at the Lyttelton Theatre

Event: The Pitmen Painters
Date: January 31st until February 17th

In 1934, a group of miners from Ashington hired a professor to teach them the finer aspects of art and how to put the world around them onto canvas in a way which would convey what their lives were like.

After a few classes, they soon realised they had a natural gift with a paint brush and produced a steady stream of paintings and pictures which would grow in stature and recognition.

They graduated from being simple miners to avant-garde art stars and they befriended some of the biggest players in the business at the time.

Despite their new-found fame, the men continued with their day jobs, earning a crust down in the inhospitable terrain of the mines by day and wowing scholars and industry figures by night.

Guests staying at the luxury London hotel the 41 can see a wonderful play which touches on areas such as class, politics and art delivered in a humorous manner.

A winner of the Evening Standard's Best Play award, it is sure to provide entertainment for all.

Following the performance, visitors can head back to the 41 and take advantage of the perks offered by the Suite Dreams package, including a bottle of Joseph Perrier Rose champagne, chocolate-dipped strawberries and a three-course table d'hote dinner for two, along with much more.
