Event: Gerhard Richter: 4900 Colours
Date: September 23rd until November 16th 2008

Autumn is the season in which nature's colours are at their most dramatic and this September guests staying at luxury London hotel the 41 can compare them against canvasses decorated in vibrant hues by Gerhard Richert at the Serpentine Gallery.

Described by the gallery as one of the greatest living artists in the world today, Gerhard Richter's new exhibition 4900 Colours will be on display at the Serpentine from September 23rd until November 16th 2008.

A total 49 paintings developed especially for the gallery depict intense monochrome squares arranged in a random grid formation to create what is described as "kaleidoscopic" colour.

Originally 4900 Colours is a largescale panel work however the exhibition includes a number of smaller sheets made from enamel paint on aludibond.

Richter's work has spanned almost five decades now and includes paintings, overpainted paintings, watercolours and drawings.

His Abstract period began in the 1960s and includes more than 50 colour charts similar to the 4900 Colours exhibition.
