Mark Rothko exhibition

Event: Mark Rothko exhibition at the Tate Modern
Date: September 28th 2008 to February 1st 2009

Mark Rothko is set to wow London art-lovers this autumn with the first major UK exhibition of his work in over 20 years.

Renowned for his soft-edged rectangular murals, Rothko and his later work will be the focus of the Tate Modern display, with his large-scale Brown on Gray works on paper of particular interest.

Guests at nearby luxury London hotel 41 should also investigate the celebrated Black-Form paintings on show, as well as Rothko's last series of Black on Gray paintings before his death in 1970.

Tate Modern already boasts some of the Latvian-born American artist's work on display but the new exhibition will pull on resources and paintings from collections in the US and Japan too.

The national gallery for international contemporary art, the Tate Modern houses a collection which includes seminal works from Fauvism to Concepual art.

It has been in existence since 2000, following its creation from a disused power station.
