Event: Trooping the Colour
Date: June 14th 2008
Royalists, traditionalists and those who enjoy a good old fashioned military ceremony are sure to be in attendance for this year's Trooping the Colour on the Queen's birthday this June.
The tradition dates back to the 17th century when the Colours of a regiment were used as a rallying point in battle and often "trooped" in front of the soldiers to ensure they recognise their regiment's colours.
Guests staying at luxury London hotel 41 with a penchant for history and British traditions will no doubt be among the throngs of spectators at Whitehall on June 14th watching the impressive display of pageantry.
Hundreds of soldiers wearing full dress uniform will march past and give the Royal Salute in celebration of the official birthday of the sovereign.
This year, visitors attending from nearby luxury London hotel 41 are more likely to catch a glimpse of the monarch in her carriage however prior to 1987 the Queen rode on horseback for the ceremony.
At precisely 11:00 am the monarch will inspect the guards before gathering on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the ceremony to watch an RAF flypast.
A set of unique stamps to celebrate Trooping the Colour was released by Royal Mail on 7th June 2005, heritage website Trooping the Colour reveals.
