In keeping with the much-loved tradition of dazzling shoppers with decorations in high streets up and down the country, London is getting ready to light up this Christmas.

Throughout November and December, the city's main streets will each receive their annual Christmas lights switch-on, and these ceremonies are something you won't want to miss if you're staying in the capital for the festive season.

Here at The 41 Hotel, we like to celebrate the festive season with as much enthusiasm as possible. Book in with the Magical London package and get mulled wine or hot chocolate on arrival, as well as an afternoon tea with a distinctly Christmassy theme.

Oxford Street

It's always worth watching the switch-on at Oxford Street, which is happening on November 12th this year. The ceremony is always a splendid affair, with spectators turning out in droves to enjoy the fairy lights. Surrounded by big names such as Selfridges, Debenhams and Marks & Spencer, you may even be inspired to do a bit of late-night shopping.

Regent Street

Regent Street will be bedecked with its splendid shimmering antler displays from November 9th onwards, and with the ceremony including a brand new DreamWorks animated film, this is an event the kids can enjoy as well. Soak up the festive atmosphere as you admire the stunning light show.

Greenwich Market

November 27th will see Greenwich put on its annual school children's lantern procession, as well as its annual switch-on. The main action will be happening at Greenwich market, so grab some mulled wine from one of the stalls and enjoy the jubilant atmosphere.

Canary Wharf

The business district looks its best during Christmas, when a very special light show called fLUMENS illuminates the docks with hundreds of little lights that resemble sails. Experience the multicoloured spectacle on December 16th, against a skyline of some of London's most iconic skyscrapers.
